Fobney Island

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Held various roles from inception and feasibility to design and construction on the River Kennet near Reading.  This is an example of chalk stream restoration, working closely with the Thames Rivers Trust, and undertaken for the Environment Agency. A significant length of artificially straightened channel was improved by narrowing and construction of new riffles. A particular feature was the reconnection of the floodplain with the main channel (shown) by excavation.  This led to improved conservation value as well as public amenity. The project won an award from the River Restoration Centre.
